For my gallery report I decided to go to the L.A. Brewery Art Walk. The reason why I decided to go to this art show was because I knew that there where going to be many galleries in one area that I could explore all at one time. Also I’ve never been to an actual real art show, of many different artists. Plus on top of all of this the Art Walk was a free public even to go to.
I went with the guy that I have been seeing for awhile now to this event, I thought it was a good idea to go with him because he lives only a half an hour away from L.A. We left to go to the Brewery around 4:50 from his house, but on the way to L.A. we missed our off ramp to North Main Street. In small words we got terribly lost! Neither one of has really been in downtown L.A., so it was quit an adventure trying to actually find North Main Street. Mrs. Willcocks wasn’t kidding when she said she wanted us to get us out of our comfort zone. ;D I have to admit I was the nervous one out of us two, because I was the one driving, and he is an upcoming police officer that is used to these situations. In the end of us being lost charade, we crossed some railroad tracks and we looked off to our right and saw a big tower that said the “Brewery.” So this told us both we finally found it. This wasn’t the end of our crazy journey, there was hardly any parking, and we only had 20 minutes to go through the Art Walk.
Once we finally parked we walked passed a couple of buildings attached to the Brewery. I assumed that some of these buildings where part of the Art Walk as well, which they could have been. So for our first building we went in had some Japanese plants and furniture out front. The sign on the door said art was upstairs, so he and I went upstairs to see what they had. When we got upstairs we saw a whole bunch of Japanese clothing, this is when I realized that this wasn’t part of the Art Walk that Mrs. Willcocks assigned us to go to.
This wasn’t the end of my embarrassment, my friend ended up saying to me, “ Hun I think it is this way!” When I looked up he was pointing at a sign that said Art Walk on a post. We followed the signs all the way until we finally got to the Art Walk. Once finally there it was a little like being at fair for art, it had places to go see art everywhere, and in the center they had a bbq. Which they where packing up because the show was coming to an end. So he and I went through as many galleries that we could go through.
For our first gallery we went in was a gallery full of vintage looking photos of cities. Each photo was enlarged and put in a glass frame. My favorite photo was where there is a park in the foreground, behind the park there is a big sign that said “West Lake Theatre,” and behind the theatre was the city. I enjoyed all these photos because I have always liked looking at photos that look old.
After this gallery we couldn’t find to much that was open any longer, we past amazing metal sculptors sitting outside of a gallery that was closed. I was very sorry that we missed this gallery. There where three very large metal probably around 7” feet sitting outside the door. The metal sculptor on the left was made out of light metal and was curvy, it had gorgeous lines throughout this piece going vertically, the middle sculptor was made from the darkest metal and was curvy like a woman’s figure, the third sculptor was made out of similar metal as the one on the left with vertical lines going throughout it but it was darker, it was also was in a form of an a large A. My favorite piece out of these three, was the metal sculptor on the fare left, the light silvers throughout the metal helped dignify the lighter lines going throughout it. I also enjoyed the curvy shape to this piece and how the lines followed the curves.
Although a crazy adventure for finding the Brewery, “that I am hoping to laugh at one day,” it came out to be fun experience full of art. This was my first experience at being a place full of galleries everywhere you turn. I will defiantly recommend this event to others that are wanting to experience different variation of artists all at one time.
