Project 6 "Final Project of Fabricated Seashells."

Hi everyone, so this is the last project that I did for my Sculptor class.
For this assignment Mrs.Willcocks assigned us students to create a piece made up of the things we collected throughout this semester, and we must develope something that represents any type of statement. So for my 100 fabricated seashells that I made and collected throughout this semester I decided to create a political statement that dealt with net fishing. The reason why I chose net fishing is because many mammals other then fish get caught in the nets and kill them. This political statement has been well known for awhile, and most net fishing in the USA is abandoned. Since my collected items where seashells I wanted to make a political piece that dealt with the sea.
Mrs.Willcocks gave me the idea to make this piece in a shape of a globe, and have my seashells in some way be attached to the globe. So I decided to make this piece circular. My design elements is to have the fishing sail boat in the center, so that would be the center focus. The captured mammals would be underneath the boat. My fabricated seashells surround the image to give the piece a beach setting.
This piece is made up of a wood circle, acrylic paint, glass, sand, sticks, wire, and my fabricated seashells.

More photo's of Brewery Art Walk

Pictures from the Brewery Art Walk

L.A. Brewery "Art Walk" April 18

For my gallery report I decided to go to the L.A. Brewery Art Walk. The reason why I decided to go to this art show was because I knew that there where going to be many galleries in one area that I could explore all at one time. Also I’ve never been to an actual real art show, of many different artists. Plus on top of all of this the Art Walk was a free public even to go to.
I went with the guy that I have been seeing for awhile now to this event, I thought it was a good idea to go with him because he lives only a half an hour away from L.A. We left to go to the Brewery around 4:50 from his house, but on the way to L.A. we missed our off ramp to North Main Street. In small words we got terribly lost! Neither one of has really been in downtown L.A., so it was quit an adventure trying to actually find North Main Street. Mrs. Willcocks wasn’t kidding when she said she wanted us to get us out of our comfort zone. ;D I have to admit I was the nervous one out of us two, because I was the one driving, and he is an upcoming police officer that is used to these situations. In the end of us being lost charade, we crossed some railroad tracks and we looked off to our right and saw a big tower that said the “Brewery.” So this told us both we finally found it. This wasn’t the end of our crazy journey, there was hardly any parking, and we only had 20 minutes to go through the Art Walk.
Once we finally parked we walked passed a couple of buildings attached to the Brewery. I assumed that some of these buildings where part of the Art Walk as well, which they could have been. So for our first building we went in had some Japanese plants and furniture out front. The sign on the door said art was upstairs, so he and I went upstairs to see what they had. When we got upstairs we saw a whole bunch of Japanese clothing, this is when I realized that this wasn’t part of the Art Walk that Mrs. Willcocks assigned us to go to.
This wasn’t the end of my embarrassment, my friend ended up saying to me, “ Hun I think it is this way!” When I looked up he was pointing at a sign that said Art Walk on a post. We followed the signs all the way until we finally got to the Art Walk. Once finally there it was a little like being at fair for art, it had places to go see art everywhere, and in the center they had a bbq. Which they where packing up because the show was coming to an end. So he and I went through as many galleries that we could go through.
For our first gallery we went in was a gallery full of vintage looking photos of cities. Each photo was enlarged and put in a glass frame. My favorite photo was where there is a park in the foreground, behind the park there is a big sign that said “West Lake Theatre,” and behind the theatre was the city. I enjoyed all these photos because I have always liked looking at photos that look old.
After this gallery we couldn’t find to much that was open any longer, we past amazing metal sculptors sitting outside of a gallery that was closed. I was very sorry that we missed this gallery. There where three very large metal probably around 7” feet sitting outside the door. The metal sculptor on the left was made out of light metal and was curvy, it had gorgeous lines throughout this piece going vertically, the middle sculptor was made from the darkest metal and was curvy like a woman’s figure, the third sculptor was made out of similar metal as the one on the left with vertical lines going throughout it but it was darker, it was also was in a form of an a large A. My favorite piece out of these three, was the metal sculptor on the fare left, the light silvers throughout the metal helped dignify the lighter lines going throughout it. I also enjoyed the curvy shape to this piece and how the lines followed the curves.
Although a crazy adventure for finding the Brewery, “that I am hoping to laugh at one day,” it came out to be fun experience full of art. This was my first experience at being a place full of galleries everywhere you turn. I will defiantly recommend this event to others that are wanting to experience different variation of artists all at one time.

Project 5 " Create an Award for Yourself"

For project five my professor Mrs. Willcocks, instructed us students to create an award for ourselves that has to represent us as individuals in some way. Also we where to use one source material to create our award.
So for my one source material I choice to use cardboard. Cardboard is a material that is easily found in the garage at my home, which once was originally used for car parts, kitchen attire, or other art supplies. The cardboard box that I choice to make my award from is from a box that once held our garbage disposal.;D Although cardboard isn't the most functional material to make something look professional, I knew I could make everything by hand with it.
My award I chose to make a carousel. I've always been partial to horses since I was a child, my family and I even had two horses of our own when I was a child, their names "Stormy and Shillow!" All through my childhood years I would always dress up as a cowgirl, and play with plastic horses. So with my obsession with horses, whenever I would go to Disneyland with my family I would ride the carousel over and over again until my parents would get tired of watching me ride it and drag me off the next ride.
Originally my idea for my award was to create a ceramic horse with scenic paintings all over it, but my professor along with the rest of the students in my sculptor class said this wasn't a good enough idea. My professor suggested how about I make a carousel. So the idea of creating a carousel came from my professor Mrs. Willcocks. However, I chose the material and I chose to make the carousel to be functional to spin. Also most of the scenes on this carousel are previous versions of paintings I've made in the past, and also scenes that relate to my family.

Week 7 Fabricated Seashells

Project 4 " Exaggeration of the human forum"

Project 4 for my sculptor class was an "Exaggeration of the human forum." In which my professor Mrs. Willcocks instructed us all think of a way to symbolize exaggeration of the body. We had to also think of at least two chose materials one traditional and the other none traditional. Are traditional materials was clay, silicon, and wood.
For this project I immediately thought of hair because many women use hair as an expression of their faminity. Also some religious culture use hair as a symbol of their faith. So my thought was to expand the length of hair which would be considered un normal. My chose materials was clay, clothe, and a plastic wig.
I also painted this figure so she would stand, instead of it being just a mass of hair. In this post I put a before and after images of the figure. One the top is the figure after I put hair on it, and the bottom pictures are the before with the figure without hair.

Project 3 "Stuff From The Garage Purse"

For this assignment our teacher for sculptor Mrs. Willcocks had assigned us to use our imagination and build an object that would somehow attach to our bodies.
The only thing I think up for this project was making a purse of some sort. So my design was for this project was to use found materials out of my garage and someway make it into a purse. The theme was supposed to represent male verses female, and how also purses now days can be exaggerated with its design.
Mrs. Willcocks recommended me to use wire for the structure for this purse because metal objects would look best with other metal objects. So for this pure I used metal wire and intertwined the metal objects that I found in my garage into the wire.
Also for this project we as students are supposed to document our objects in three different location and take picture of where we took our objects.
So this is my first documentation of my "Stuff From The Garage Purse." Which is in my car in the parking lot of my school.

Week 2 Fabricated Seashells

Week 1 Fabricated Seashells

Fabricated Seashells

One major assignment that we are going to do for sculptor class through the semester for a course of ten weeks is collecting objects and documenting them. We are required to collect a minimum of 33 objects unless the professor tells us otherwise and document these objects three times a week by taking photographs. The objects that I have chosen for this project is seashells, because ever since I was a little girl I have had a fondness of going to the beach, lake, or even stores collecting seashells.

However, my professor Mrs. Willcock wants me to have 100 fabricated seashells. So instead of having real seashells I have made 100 ceramic shells. In which I made them look like seashells that I have collected over the years. So after baking all the ceramic shells I spray painted them with colors of white and red, this gave all the shells a pink and white look to them. Also the spray paint gave the ceramic seashells a glossy look, making them look more like real seashells. Some of the ceramic shells do have drops of green on them because I wanted to try green spray paint as well, but I didn't like the effect it had on them as much as the white and pink did. So for the course of the next 10 weeks I will be posting pictures of my ceramic seashells.

Hey you all!
So I am sorry about not posting anything lately. These piece are another part of project #1 we did in my sculptor class at Crafton Hills College. In which as a class we all had to choice three things to do from the website learningtoloveyoumore.com.
The image on the left is assignment "# 56 Make a portrait of your friends desires". In which for this project I used my mother and I had her look through selected magazines of things she liked. Mainly my mom choice things such as outdoor pictures, food picture, coffee picture, different sign pictures that represent things, a chick with an egg picture, and a mickey mouse picture. These images are supposed to represent my mom as a person, and "I guess it kind of does!;D"
The image on the right is assignment "#32 Draw a scene from a movie that mad you cry." So my immediate thought when I saw this one was picking to draw the scene from "Pride and Prejudice" when Mark Darcey returns to Elizabeth Benette at the very end. It is a very romantic scene, and I believe most women desire a man to come after them. I drew the scene when Elizabeth Benette takes Mark Darcey's hand after he declares the love he has for her.

Hi everyone!
This is a class assignment that I did for my sculptor 275x4 course. For this assignment we had to go onto the website learningtoloveyoumore.com and chose three assignments.
So this is one of the assignments that I chose which is assignment #56,"Recreating an object from someones past."
This object is of my Aunt Kathy's old Volkswagen.
The Volkswagen is created of cardboard and duck
tap. I also used a black sharpie to put details on the car.
